toddler prayer…

cec and i have been teaching eowyn to pray lately…specifically, praying for others who are sick. we simply coach her to say, “Jesus, touch, amen or Jesus, heal, amen” it is really cool. she is very genuine when she does it too, it’s truly amazing!

we hung out with some good friend’s this past thursday night. they have two children. their daughter is 3 1/2 years old and has really bad asthma. so bad that if she laughs to long, she goes into a severe asthmatic attack requiring oxygen. she also cannot play outside for the same reason.

we said, “that’s not right”. i believe all sickness is injustice and the Kingdom brings justice. so, we prayed. we coached eowyn and she walked over to the little girl laid her hand on her shoulder and said, “Jesus, touch, amen” and then walked away playing with a stuffed wolf laughing. the crazy part is that she prayed that simple, toddler-filled prayer with authority. once she prayed that, the presence of God filled the room and the little girl’s body was filled with heat, which is usually a physical sign that God is healing someone. cec and i just finished out the prayer that eowyn so powerfully began.

well, we just spoke with the grandma today who said that after we left that night, the girl laughed for 1 1/2 hours…and she didn’t have an asthmatic attack, which has never happened before. she also played outside that night and every night since…again, without any asthmatic attack, which also has never happened before. Jesus is so good.

Jesus doesn’t like asthma, but he loves kids…i mean, He really loves them. you may think i have lost my marbles believing that our daughter, who isn’t even 2 years old yet could be used by God to heal a little girl. i am reminded of a delicious psalm Jesus pulls out when speaking to some extra-crispy religious folks in the temple in Matthew 21:16. he says, “from the lips of children and infants, you have ordained praise”. then there is the second part of that psalm [psalm 8:2] that Jesus draws from that says, “they silence your enemies who were seeking revenge”.

oh yeah, the enemy was silenced…through the prayer of a 23 month old who doesn’t know what unbelief is. what kind of impact would the church have if we could pray like that?

  1. That God can use Eowyn makes more sense than a lot of stuff I’ve seen in my short time on the earth…

  2. Wow, Amen this blog is so encouraging. I believe I have a unique calling into both Chi Alpha and children’s ministry. As I wait on Him to reveal how the two connect, this blog is just AWESOME! Thanks for sharing =)
